    The otherworldly, glacier-carved landscapes of Norway's Svalbard archipelago in the Arctic Ocean – of which Spitsbergen is the largest island – are home to the largest concentration of polar bears in the world… around 3,000 of them! Our small-ship cruise, "Arctic Allure: Spitsbergen and the Midnight Sun, takes you to explore the archipelago's jagged mountains, steep-sided valleys, sheer cliffs, fjords, calving glaciers that crackle and groan, and the remains of old whaling outposts and mining camps established by Norwegians, Americans and Russians over a century ago. Keep your eyes open for some of those polar bears… as well as bearded seals, blue and white whales, Arctic foxes, and Arctic moose.

    As you cruise along the coast of Spitsbergen in the Arctic Ocean, you'll encounter islands of glaciers, fjords, and natural "ice sculpture," revered for their silent majesty. Here, in the "Land of the Midnight Sun" (north of the Arctic Circle, where at certain times of the year the sun remains visible at the local midnight), your daily itinerary is flexible – go where the weather and movement of wildlife tell you to go, seeking Svalbard reindeer, polar bears, walruses, whales, Arctic foxes, red-throated divers, pink-footed geese, and more. Expedition naturalists accompany you throughout your voyage, enjoying a camaraderie that only Arctic explorers can share... as close as you can get to the North Pole!
